Wool sea sponges (also called lamb’s wool sponges), are super soft and absorbent, and are perfect for everyday use in the bath or shower. They are soft and gentle enough for washing babies and children, and when used with a natural soap or body wash, they create a rich, luxurious lather, and rinse out easily and completely. Natural sea sponges contain enzymes that make them naturally antibacterial and inhibit the growth of mildew and mold. They are naturally hypo-allergenic and toxin free. Sea sponges have been used for bath and body use for over 2000 years. They are highly absorbent, and are suitable for even the most sensitive skin.  Natural sea sponges are classified as animals rather than plants because they do not photosynthesize, but in every other way, they are more similar to plants. They do not have brains, digestive, circulatory or nervous systems and, once rooted, do not move. Papat sea sponges are sustainably harvested off the Florida keys by Greek divers who carefully cut individual sponges in the traditional way.   When done properly, harvesting sea sponges is actually beneficial to the sponge population as a whole. Harvesting sea sponges by cutting them off with a knife rather than “hooking” them by ripping the whole sponge off the bottom, actually strengthens their ability to regenerate, and extends the lifetime of the organism.  Cut sponges regrow, often healthier and bigger than the original, within a few years, and any pieces broken off will settle back to the ocean floor, connect to a new object and create a new sponge. Over time this harvesting method can dramatically increase the population density and overall health of the sponges being harvested. Sea Sponge Use and Care: Before their first use, rinse your sponges in clean water, and give them one last check for any remaining bits of seaweed or tiny shells. We do try and clean them very carefully, but as these are natural products, sometimes tiny bits may escape our careful checks. After each use, squeeze or shake out excess water and hang to dry. Natural sea sponges are perfect for your daily bath or shower, and with normal use and proper care, they can last for years. Papat sponges are whole sponges, which is what gives them their lovely naturally round and complete shape. Because they are not cut from other larger sponges, the water flows better, and they remain cleaner over time. Carefully and sustainably harvested by hand in the USA.
