Description and Details We are delighted to offer this Georgian solid silver tobacco/snuff box with the marks of James Phipps I (London) c.1770. The box is of circular form with a single hinged lid and is well crafted with a sturdy gauge of silver. The top lid features a hand-engraved coat of arms of two families, most likely engraved to celebrate either marriages or partnerships between two families. The box has a fine minimalist elegance to its overall aesthetic design with a lovely patina and antique colouration. Such boxes would have originally been used to store loose tobacco leaves (for pipes) or snuff however, in the modern day, it may also be used practically for carrying pills, mints or small items on the go in a distinguished and stylish manner and bound to be a conversation starter for the keen-eyed. The box is only hallmarked with the maker's mark 'I.P' for James Phipps I of London.
