Marbles – John Gibbons Glass
Hand sculpted medium-sized glass marbles by John Gibbons are inspired by the abundant colors and life of nature. Each glass marble begins as long rods of colored glass which are then rolled up onto a solid mass of molten clear glass and shaped into a sphere with a graphite mold.
This Coral Reef glass marble is inspired by tube sponges in the coral reef. The colors that form the tubes in the marble are created by layering rods of glass and then stretching the rods into another rod that is then cut into short sections. After the tube sponges are formed, I put the coral reef together and finish off the marble in a graphite mold to give it a perfect spherical shape. Approximately 2 1/4 inches in diameter. Each marble is hand sculpted and may vary slightly from photographs.
Hand blown Dichroic Galaxy glass marble. This medium-sized marble is made by using blue and green colored glass, and then adding a layer of pink dichroic glass to give it a pink shimmer. It is inspired by a spiral galaxies which contain billions of stars, gas and dust. When the glass is hot, the color and dichroic are twisted and the marble is shaped into a sphere by using a graphite mold. Check out the video! Approximately 2 inches in diameter.
This large Green Coral Reef glass marble is inspired by tube sponges in the coral reef. The colors that form the tubes in the marble are created by layering rods of glass and then stretching the rods into another rod that is then cut into short sections. After the tube sponges are formed, I put the coral reef together and finish off the marble in a graphite mold to give it a perfect spherical shape. Check out the video! Approximately 2 1/4 inches in diameter. Each marble is hand sculpted and may vary slightly from photographs.
Hand blown Rainbow Spiral glass marble. This medium-sized marble is made by using long rods of different colored glass, which are then rolled up onto a solid mass of molten clear glass. Next, it is twisted into a spiral pattern and shaped with a mold into a marble. Approximately 2 inches in diameter. Each marble is hand sculpted and may vary slightly from photographs.
This large Anemone glass marble is inspired by the sea anemones off the Northern California Coast. This marble is created by bundling rods of glass and then stretching and cutting them into short sections. These sections are then bundled together to form the center of the anemone. This process of bundling rods of glass together to form interesting patterns is called murrine. I group several murrine together, then gather a layer of clear glass to make the marble optical and appear as though the Anemone is encased in a layer of water. The marble is finished off in a graphite mold to give it a perfect spherical shape. Approximately 2 1/4 inches in diameter. *This item is currently out of stock, please allow 2 weeks after purchasing to be recreated.
This marble is made on a torch that reaches a temperatureof 5000 degrees Fahrenheit. I am wanting to get back into making glass on the torch so I have been practicing with these small marbles. Marble photo is what will be shipped. Marble is about .5 inches
Hand blown Dichroic Galaxy glass marble. This medium-sized marble is made by using aqua and white colored glass, and then adding a layer of pink dichroic glass to give it a pink shimmer. It is inspired by a spiral galaxies which contain billions of stars, gas and dust. When the glass is hot, the color and dichroic are twisted and the marble is shaped into a sphere by using a graphite mold. Check out the video! Approximately 2.5 inches in diameter.
Hand blown Rainbow Spiral glass marble. This medium-sized marble is made by using long rods of different colored glass, which are then rolled up onto a solid mass of molten clear glass. Next, it is twisted into a spiral pattern and shaped with a mold into a marble. Approximately 1.5 to 1.75  inches in diameter. Each marble is hand sculpted and will differ slightly from photograph.
