It also gives better and more efficient access to the knife slot. That said the main reasons for changing from low to high hammer loop other than preference would be typically for people with shorter arms so they can more easily reach without it impeding movement. Also, for those doing more finishing work, having your tools hang higher and out of the way makes them less likely to damage surfaces.
