U.S.%20%23E12-19%201922-51%20Special%20Delivery%20%20%20Special%20Delivery%20stamps%20were%20pre-payments%20added%20to%20the%20regular%20%26ldquo%3Blawful%20postage%26rdquo%3B%20for%20an%20extra%20service%20%26ndash%3B%20immediate%20delivery%20of%20a%20letter%20within%20one%20mile%20of%20any%20special%20delivery%20post%20office.%26nbsp%3B%20These%20special%20post%20offices%20were%20those%20with%20free%20routine%20delivery%20service%20or%20in%20larger%20communities%20with%204%2C000%20or%20more%20people.%26nbsp%3B%20%20%20First%20available%20in%201885%2C%20the%20Special%20Delivery%20service%20was%20extremely%20popular.%26nbsp%3B%20At%20first%2C%20the%20service%20was%20available%20from%207%20a.m.%20to%20midnight.%26nbsp%3B%20The%20following%20year%2C%20the%20hours%20changed%20from%207%20a.m.%20to%207%20p.m.%26nbsp%3B%20The%20service%20was%20so%20successful%20that%20in%201886%2C%20every%20U.S.%20post%20office%20began%20to%20offer%20Special%20Delivery.%20%26nbsp%3B
