- A wooden writing/stationery box in English Sycamore with European Walnut lid, inspired by traditional Japanese carpentry and mid-century modern design. *PLEASE NOTE: THE PICTURES ABOVE ARE ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY* Photos show a box which has already sold. The grain appearance will not exactly match the photos, but all other details of the box remain the same. DESIGN The aim in designing this piece was to create a simple, yet highly functional, valet box that embodied the principles I consider to be essential to any piece of work: beauty, flawless construction, and a perfect finish. The top section of the box fits A5 size envelopes & pads, with the lower compartments offering ideal storage for pens, pencils, erasers, pads, etc. If you have any items that require compartments of a specific size I'm more than happy to vary dimensions of the dividers and box itself. Note that none of the items that appear in the photos are included apart from the box/lid/dividers/lining. OPTIONS - Insert trays can be purchased, contact me for details and price. A simple two-compartment tray would start at approximately £45. - Walnut dividers are optional, see pricing for details. - Leather lining also optional, or can be replaced with suede for a less hard-wearing but more luxurious feel. A wide variety of leather/suede colours are available, contact me for further details. - Custom versions of varying size & timber can be made. I’m happy to be contacted to discuss your requirements, and will respond within 24 hours. TIMBER The Sycamore itself comes from a timberyard in Grantham, which has now sadly closed. Carefully selected from the huge range of boards they offered, I chose this particular stock as it was unusually flawless, with no knots or noticeable defects, and fantastic clean grain. The tree was felled by the timberyard themselves from a small area of woodland on the Rougham Estate in Suffolk. - Lid is European figured walnut, which changes appearance with light and viewing angle. - Sides made from a single piece of English Sycamore allowing the grain of the wood to flow around the box. - Base made from bookmatched English Sycamore, with the grain 'mirrored' along the glued joint. - Box ‘floats’ on walnut feet, with walnut keys in corners to add strength. DETAILS - Hand sanded to 400 grit, then finished with 3 coats of a hand-rubbed danish oil, producing a satin finish. This enhances the beauty of the grain, without appearing artificial as many other finishes do. - Timber is sustainably sourced - European walnut and English air-dried sycamore. - Heirloom quality, perfect for keepsakes and jewellery. - External dimensions (LxWxH) approx: 255mm x 182mm x 90mm - Internal dimensions (LxWxH) approx: 235mm x 162mm x 80mm - Walnut dividers approx. height: 35mm
