This Fine Art Necktie is inspired by Wassily Kandinsky's iconic painting Squares with Concentric Circles. Designed by ArtistGifts, this abstract art necktie is a perfect gift for art teachers, art students and any art enthusiast! Squares with Concentric Circles is perhaps Kandinsky's most famous work even though it was not intended to be a major composition. This famous study was done in 1913 to illustrate how colors relate to each other.

Wassily Kandinsky Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky 1866-1944, was an influential Russian painter and art theorist. He is credited with painting one of the first purely abstract works. At the age of 30, Kandinsky gave up a promising career teaching law and economics to enroll in art school in Munich. After completing studies at the Academy of Fine art, he returned to Moscow in 1914, after the outbreak of World War I. However, he did not embrace the theories on art in communist Moscow, and returned to Germany in 1921. There, he taught at the Bauhaus school of art and architecture until the Nazis closed it in 1933. He then moved to France, where he lived for the rest of his life, becoming a French citizen in 1939 and producing some of his most prominent works he defined as Compositions. He died at Neuilly-sur-Seine in 1944.

After the onset of World War II he moved to New York where he lived until his death; this is where he created his most iconic works. At this point, his style was pure abstraction and non-representation and he used a primary color palette of Red, Yellow, and Blue with Black lines and pure white space. Piet died in 1944 yet his legacy lives on in the fashions of Yves Saint Laurent, the L’Oreal cosmetics line and our Piet Mondrian Necktie and Facemask.

Alphonse Mucha 1860-1939
Alphonse Mucha, was a Czech painter and decorative artist, best known for his distinctive Art Nouveau style. Mucha became a chorister at the Saint-Peter’s Cathedral in Brno, where he received his secondary school education. It is there that he had his first revelation, in front of the richness of Baroque art. He later moved to Paris and continued his studies in art and worked producing magazine art and illustrations. It was then that he produced a lithograph for famous Paris actress Sarah Bernhardt who liked the poster so much she signed him to a 6 year contract. Mucha's art quickly became popular and he produced a flurry of paintings, posters and advertisements in what was initially called Mucha Style but later became know as Art Nouveau.

Mucha enjoyed a successful career until the rise of fascism in the late 30's when his work became viewed by some as reactionary. He was arrested by the Gestapo in 1939 and became ill during his interrogation. He was released but later died of a lung infection in Prague on 14 July 1939.

August Macke painted Couple on the Forest Track in 1913 and it makes a great Art Shirt design! This colorful painting was originally done in oil on paper during the last years of his life. August Macke -1887 – 1914
August Macke was a German Expressionist painter who lived during a very innovative time for German Art. He was one of the leading members of the German Expressionist group Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider) and was influenced by many artists of the time including Wassily Kandinsky, Franz Marc, Robert Delaunay, Paul Klee and Louis Moilliet. Like a true artist of his time, Macke integrated the elements of the avant-garde into his work and many of his paintings are considered a form of Expressionism and Fauvism, focusing on bold color and form rather than representational or realism. Unfortunately his life was cut short early in World War 1 the front in Champagne, France, on 26 September 1914.
