The Savage Garden: Cultivating Carnivorous Plants

I've been growing almost exclusively in long fiber sphagnum moss and perlite. I'm wondering what the advantages and disadvantages are for peat & perlite for Nepenthes. I live in a temperate rainforest

I have beautiful, thick, live sphagnum moss growing on my sarracenias. Is there a downside to this? Can it hinder growth? Do I need to clear away any of it? Thanks!
